Explore the personal book collection of Gary Giovane—beloved teacher, archaeologist, and artist—in this unique online auction. Handpicked over decades, Gary’s library reflects a rich life of creativity and cultural curiosity. Subjects include Northwest Coast Native art and culture, Japanese art and traditions, Celtic design and symbolism, and the beauty of the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. This is a rare opportunity to own the inspirational volumes that shaped an artist's vision.

"I never had the opportunity to go to art school or to acquire any formal artistic training.  Due to the other professional paths I’ve chosen to go down over the years, my art education has been restricted to the many books I have collected and studied.  These resources have been my “school” and they have provided me the opportunity to study under the top experts in the field—the artists themselves as shown by their works.  Studying the art shown in these pages has given me insight and provided inspiration.  Backed by this, I have been able to explore, experiment, and hopefully learn from my many mistakes.  The goal is to be continually learning, consistently improving, and ultimately forever creating.

I have provided the following list of books in my personal “library” as a resource for any who would like to further pursue their interests.  Also, this acts as my bibliography for the many times I have referenced sources in the descriptions of my works.  The order of the four sections chronologically corresponds to the stages of my artistic education." -Gary Giovane
