Gary Giovane.
Gary's unique style of painting on cedar was inspired by his experiences as an archeologist, working on the Fishtown and Ozette Indian archeological projects, and through his career as a science and math teacher at Neah Bay. Gary's work was also influenced by the Celtic art tradition of knotwork; over many visits to Scotland he was inspired by the similarities between Celtic and Northwest Indian art. Gary was also drawn to the use of pattern and two-dimensional style of Japanese art as used in textiles, ceramics, and woodblock prints. Creating a beautiful symmetry of these various forms of art, Gary's original art depicts the vast cultural history of these influences.
